The Shoes
It was a very cold winter. It was cold for Mehmet,
too. He put on a pair of shoes with a lot of holes and water penetrated and wet
his little feet. He would like to wear a better pair of shoes, but the poverty
could not allow that. Frequently, he thought: “Ah, if I had some money to buy
new dress, strong shoes and a rain coat.”
One
day, when he was returning from school, he saw that the time for Iqindi prayer
was due. He loved to pray, so he turned to prayer in mosque together with
others. While he was ready to perform ablution (abdes), he saw that his feet
were wet. From sadness he threw the shoes on the ground. In that moment, in
front of him, he saw another person performing ablution, how he was washing one
leg, but the other leg was missing!
Now,
the Mehmet sadness faded away. In front of him he had the man with one leg. He
could have the money to buy new clothes, jacket and shoes, but money can’t buy
everything, with money he couldn’t buy his leg. After performing the prayer,
with thoughts other than those he had previously, he asked and thanked Almighty
Allah for his two healthy legs He had given to him.
